One of Cheshire's Gardens of Distinction in Cheshire's Year of Gardens 08. Dating from 1719, Capesthorne Hall dominates the landscaped park punctuated with groups of trees and three serene lakes. The gardens feature colourful herbaceous borders filled with a rich array of perennials. They are notable for the late summer fragrance of rosa gallica, rosa rugosa and old moss roses. Visitors can also enjoy a small rose arbour, rhododendron woods and walks leading to an arboretum. The much-loved home where the Bromley-Davenports and their ancestors have lived since Domesday times. The present house, which was built to replace an earlier one, was built in 1721 and altered by Blore in 1837 and by Salvin in 1867. Capesthorne contains a great variety of treasures, fine paintings, furniture, marble, Greek vases and family muniments dating from 1153.
