Bretherton Gardens
A diverse group of gardens set in a pretty conservation village on the West Lancashire plain, eight miles South-West of Preston and one mile East of the A59. 2008 is their seventh year of opening for charity, with one new garden joining this time.
Open:12 noon to 5pm on stated Sundays; Admission varies from £3 to £4 combined charge for all the gardens open that day (accompanied children free).

Victorian cottager's plot of one-third acre divided into themed areas including kitchen garden, orchard, ponds, Yorkshire and Lancashire twin borders, mixed and herbaceous planting, all cultivated to encourage wildlife and stimulate the spirit and the senses.

One and a half acre garden and hardy plant nursery, originally orchard, now has gravel garden with silver and variegated foliage, shrubs, herbaceous borders and large, stream-fed pond with woodland walk; Victorian fern house, brick-built summerhouse and sculpture by Thompson Dagnall. Plants for sale.

Also open Wednesdays from 7 May to 13 August, 1-5pm, admission £2.50; group visits, talks and demonstrations can be arranged.
